Due to federal government requirements, Chattanooga participates in an air improvement program. Hamilton County residents must have annual emissions tests of their vehicles to renew their license plates. Consider the following points:

  • Prices: $ 10. Test centers accept cash and have no change for bills over $ 20, credit cards VISA and MasterCard are accepted. If a vehicle does not pass the first test, the second test performed within 90 days is free.

  • When: Test results are valid for 90 days. In Tennessee, the labels on your plates expire one year after they are issued.

  • Do all vehicles have to be tested? Vehicle models 1975 and later.

  • Exceptions: The new vehicles, of less than a year are not subject to inspection, but the declaration of its manufacturer must be presented when registering the vehicle. Electric vehicles, motorcycles and registered old vehicles are not subject.
